Using Surveillance to Monitor Employees
Using Surveillance to Monitor Employees
The use of small spy cameras for surveillance purposes comes as no real shock in this day and age. Many public places such as banks, super markets, and gas stations use these small cameras. However, one aspect of this surveillance is under constant debate in the workplace; and that is employee surveillance. Every company is in best interest and has every right to protect it's property weither it be physical or intellectual. However, every employee has the same rights to privacy as every other person entering the store. Here are some popular examples we'll go over to see if there is any reason to think poorly of monitoring the employees. Restaurants are often a welcome sight to those who are on long road trips or those who simply don't have time to sit and cook dinner. When attending a restaurant, certain things are already expected of the service. For example, clean dishes and polite servers are always expected. And of course a tasty meal is always expected. More than likely you've witnessed video surveillance footage on television of employees at various restaurants commiting nasty acts. Some instances of this would be someone sneezing on a plate of food, spitting in a drink before serving it, or acts even worse then these. Most of these employees had various reasons for doing such things. They may have had a bad day, didn't get tipped last night, or simply doesn't like the person they are serving for personal reasons. So how can one know if such things are going on behind closed doors ? The use of hidden cameras and surveillance systems help out in this case. If it weren't for camera monitoring, we may never have known such things even went on. In this case, surveillance at least gives us the hope that the employees will be too scared to do such nasty acts since they are being watched.
Casino businesses are probably the largest companies to use surveillance technology to view their employees actions. Practically every casino in Las Vegas contains some kind of security system to watch over it's employees. Even though most people know about the hidden cameras within casinos, without surveillance systems casinos would lose millions of dollars over the course of years. So it is really only in their best interest that they high groups or companies to help monitor their employees. If these businesses watched didn't use surveillance systems to watch over the people working for them, they wouldn't have proof of who was stealing money.
Surveillance systems are also used in IT companies to make sure employees aren't leaking secret company information to competitors or abusing the email systems. Employees of companies like this often use the company internet for personal usage such as downloading mp3s, download movies, and other things. Companies don't want their employees abusing the privellages they give to their employees. Although in all these cases, employee surveillance is a must have for business owners. Some people still may argue against it, saying it infringes upon their rights.
